Civic Archaeological Mining Museum of Rio nell'Elba

The Archaeological Museum of the Mining District is, together with the Mining Museum, one of the central points for disseminating the cultural contents of the Island's Mining Park.

The Museum is located in Rio nell'Elba, in a modern building under the suggestive Barcocaio terrace. The name originates from a Riese dialect form because it arises in the place where several apricot trees grow, called "barcochi". Inside, the most ancient history of the mining district of the eastern island is told, starting from the dawn of its exploitation, during the Copper Age, up to the Middle Ages.

The Museum displays the Eneolithic finds (end of the 3rd and beginning of the 2nd millennium BC) of approximately 90 depositions in the collective burial of the Cave of San Giuseppe.

Museum of the Sea and the wreck of the Polluce

The Sea Museum is located in Capoliveri, it was inaugurated in April 2014, it is located under the town square, in via Palestro, on display in the premises is the treasure found in the sea of ​​the Island of Elba, inside the wreck of the Pollux.

The treasure tells the story of the shipwreck of the steamship, built in France in 1839 and sunk on 17 June 1841 off the coast of Capo Calvo, in the waters of Capoliveri. The exhibition at the Museo del Mare is curated by the Superintendency for the Archaeological Heritage of Tuscany and by the Municipality of Capoliveri.

Civic Archaeological Museum of Marciana

Marciana Museum, the first to be born on the island of Elba

The Civic Archaeological Museum of Marciana was the first to be opened on the island in 1968 and was renovated in 2002. Like the other archaeological museums on Elba, the one in Portoferraio and that of Rio nell'Elba, is the result of collaboration between the University, the Archaeological Superintendency of Tuscany and the Municipal Administration. Inside are preserved the oldest finds on the island, which have their roots in local prehistory.

Principality of the Island of Elba

The principality of the Island of Elba was a small European state, which existed in the 19th century from 1814 to 1815, ruled by Napoleon Bonaparte, former emperor of the French and king of Italy.
