The Municipality of Campo nell’Elba is located in the southernmost and flat part of the island and extends from the Gulf of Lacona to Pomonte.
In the past it was a fishing village that stretched along the wide sandy bay.

Today it is the main center of the municipality of Campo nell’Elba and its beach, the longest on the island, is among the most popular in the summer season.
On the western end of the bay of Marina di Campo stands the cylindrical tower built as a defense system, probably during the Pisan domination.
The town hall is located in Marina di Campo, a seaside resort overlooking the homonymous gulf. In this area we find numerous archaeological finds as evidence of the antiquity of its settlements.

Today the whole area of Campo has excellent hotel facilities and offers tourists the opportunity to choose between a lively and lively holiday on the coast and a quiet and secluded stay inland, in San Piero or Sant Ilario.
In the municipality of Campo there is the La Pila airport that connects the island of Elba with some Italian and European cities. Cavoli, Seccheto, Fetovaia and the island of Pianosa are also part of the municipal district.
Sant Ilario
Located on a hill at 207 meters above sea level, with the Gulf of Marina di Campo in front and the mountain behind it, it is one of the oldest and most typical villages.
In Sant’Ilario you can see the Church of S. Giovanni, the largest primitive temple built by Christianity on the island.
Along the road that leads to S. Piero is the Tower of S. Giovanni in Campo, an important Pisan monument.
San Piero in Campo
It is located on a granite rise of Mount Capanne at 227 meters above sea level.
Here are the famous quarries, rich in minerals, Fonte del Prete, Caviere, Vallicella and Grottadoggi for which geologists have defined the island of Elba the casket.
In San Piero there is the Church of S. Niccolò probably built on the remains of a Roman temple.
Archaeological finds
A sacred enclosure with monoliths arranged in a semicircle, dating back to about 3000 years ago and referable to the first Eneolithic inhabitants, can be seen on Monte Cocchero.
Remains of melting furnaces, which attest to the exploitation of the Elban mines by the Romans between the II century a.C. and the II century AD, they were found in Fetovaia and Seccheto.
