In the past it was a fishing village that stretched along the vast sandy bay.

Today it is the main center of the municipality of Campo nell’Elba and its beach, the longest on the island, is one of the most popular in the summer season.
On the western end of the bay of Marina di Campo stands the cylindrical tower built as a defense system, probably during the Pisan domination.

The seat of the municipality is situated in Marina di Campo, a seaside resort that overlooks the homonymous gulf. In this area there are many archaeological finds which testify the antiquity of its settlements.
