Marciana Alta

Marciana the highest town on the island

Marciana Alta with its 375 m of altitude is the highest town on the island and one of the oldest villages , as evidenced by the Pisan Fortress which dominates the country, where the population went to take refuge during pirate attacks. The streets are very narrow and bristling, all accessible only on foot. From the town starts the pedestrian street that leads to the sanctuary of the Madonna del Monte. Marciana is also the starting point of the cableway to M. Capanne, where on clear days it is possible to admire the Elba and the surrounding islands in their splendor.
