Events that are more than just a festival, which enliven our mountain villages and represent the desire to be together, to tell the story of our region through taste and gastronomic creations.
A week of intense intercultural exchange with initiatives aimed at raising awareness of the territory, its cultural identity and landscape, at creating networks between communities and external entities, at experimenting with creativity, at exploring nutrition, at sharing the challenges of the sustainable economy and at bringing the social dimension of the Island to life.
The appointment with the scents and flavours of autumn on Elba – now in its fifth edition – presents a week full of events: the traditional festivals (Autumn Festival in Marciana and Chestnut Festival in Poggio), numerous excursions and walks, workshops, music, theatre and cultural meetings.
Event organized by the Municipality of Marciana
The event is organized by the Municipality of Marciana and Pro Loco Marciana Elba with the collaboration and participation of numerous partners.
The Chestnut Week is based on a project of the Municipality of Marciana, carried out by the Administration led by Mayor Barbi, created to promote the autumn period from a cultural, environmental, tourist and food and wine point of view.
Under the patronage of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park and the Phoenicians’ Route of the Council of Europe.

Elba Castagnaccio: Angela reveals the Pucinca recipe.
The chestnut cake
Castagnaccio is one of the stars of the Poggio chestnut festival and the week of meetings and events dedicated to the fruit that was once the main resource of the Marciana area. The women of the village prepare dozens of trays of the tasty dessert to offer to the guests who come to Poggio and Marciana on Sundays. Signora Angela revealed to us the Pucinca recipe for traditional castagnaccio.
Castagnaccio Recipe: Chestnut Flour, Almonds, Pine Nuts, and Raisins
Take the chestnut flour, put it in a bowl, add a little water, work it well with the machine and make this dough.
Then add a little sugar and a little salt to taste, the resulting dough should have a consistency, neither too firm nor too liquid.
Then add to the bowl with the dough: almonds, pine nuts, raisins, even a pinch of orange peel is good.
And finally take the pan, grease it, pour in the mixture and put everything in the oven.
