Santa Chiara

Chiara was born in Assisi, in 1193, from the noble family of Favarone degli Offreducci. She was still a child when a civil war broke out in the city between the nobles and the nascent bourgeoisie and Chiara had to take refuge, with her family, in Perugia, where she remained until her youth. Returning to Assisi, with the desire to belong only to Christ and attracted by the example of St. Francis, on the night of Palm Sunday 1212 she leaves her father’s house and, at the Porziuncola, embraces the Gospel Form of Life in the footsteps of the Lord and his most holy mother. His life is consumed in the small cloister of the monastery of San Damiano, in a joyful following of the poor and crucified Christ. In a simple, hardworking and fraternal life, through the path of poverty, she opens up to the mystery of God.
