On Monday 4 August, from 9:30 pm to 11:00 pm, the Circolo della Vela di Marciana Marina (CVMM), together with the Handarpermare Social Promotion Association, is promoting “Sea, Sport and Inclusion”, an evening dedicated to raising awareness on the issues of disability, sport and social inclusion.
On Monday 4 August, from 9:30 pm to 11:00 pm, the Circolo della Vela di Marciana Marina (CVMM), together with the Handarpermare Social Promotion Association, is promoting “Sea, Sport and Inclusion”, an evening dedicated to raising awareness on the issues of disability, sport and social inclusion.
The initiative was born with the aim of illustrating how the sea and sailing can become concrete tools for independence, rehabilitation, physical well-being, and personal growth, fostering a culture of inclusion through sporting experiences.
Handarpermare CVMM and the Elba Tour
During the evening, Handarpermare, a guest at the CVMM docks during the tour of Elba with a crew of blind and visually impaired sailors, will present its mission and the activities it carries out daily to make sailing accessible to all, demonstrating how sport can break down physical and cultural barriers.
This will be followed by a roundtable discussion featuring numerous firsthand accounts from Handarpermare members, with the participation of several associations committed to supporting people with disabilities on Elba, including Fondazione Isola d’Elba ETS, Fondazione Exodus Isola d’Elba, Baskin Elba, and Diversamente Marinai. The event will be followed by an open discussion with the public, encouraging discussion and sharing of experiences.
The objectives of the initiative are:
• raise awareness among citizens about the relationship between disability and sport;
• enhance the role of sailing and nautical activities as tools for inclusion;
• create a meeting point between associations, families, volunteers and citizens;
• strengthen the territorial network between the organizations operating in the world of disability.
The August 4th event aims to be an opportunity to reflect on the fact that the sea represents a space open to all, where differences become values and sport becomes a universal language of participation.
