Chestnut Elba 2024 – Poggio Festival
With the traditional Poggio Chestnut Festival, the week of autumn festivities in the Marcianese area will end, a series of events that celebrate the flavors of Elba’s autumn.

Starting on Sunday 20th October in Marciana with the Autumn Festival, the week will end on Sunday 27th (postponed to 1st November), in Poggio with the famous Castagnata Elbana.
In Poggio the Castagnata will start at 10.00; guests will be able to visit the village following a gastronomic itinerary linked to old traditions and taste chestnut-based foods, from first courses to second courses, from desserts to chestnut bread and other delicacies.
Free shuttle service
A free shuttle service to the village of Poggio will be available throughout the day.

The Elban chestnut
The Pucinco chestnut, Mrs. Angela reveals the recipe to us
Castagnaccio is one of the protagonists of the Poggio chestnut party and of the week of meetings and events dedicated to the fruit which was once the main resource of the Terre di Marciana.
The ladies of the town prepare dozens of trays of the tasty dessert for you to taste to the guests who arrive in Poggio and Marciana on Sunday.
Mrs. Angela revealed to us the Pucinca recipe for castagnaccio according to tradition.
Castagnaccio recipe: chestnut flour, almonds, pine nuts and raisins
You take the chestnut flour, put it in a bowl, add a little water, mix it well with the machine and make this dough.
Then you add a little bit of sugar and a little bit of salt just enough, the mixture obtained must have a consistency that is neither too firm nor too liquid. Afterwards, add: almonds, pine nuts, raisins to the bowl with the mixture, a peel of peel is also fine of orange.
And finally you take the pan, grease it, pour the mixture in and put everything in the oven.

The Hermitage of San Cerbone is located on the slopes of Monte Capanne, at a height of 530 m above sea level, overlooking the towns of Marciana and Poggio, submerged by centuries-old chestnut trees .
