Memory Elbana
The Scientific Committee of the AME, Archive of the Memory of Elba, met on Monday 16 September, coordinated by Patrizia Lupi, responsible for the project, of which Leonardo Preziosi of Italia Nostra Arcipelago Toscano and Franco De Simone Infoelba are partners srl, who were joined by: Giorgio Giusti of the La Torre di Marina di Campo Cultural Association, Gianmario Gentini of the Le Macinelle di San Piero Cultural Association, Federico Ceschin, Project Manager, the historians Silvestre Ferruzzi, Mario Ferrari, Giuseppe Battaglini and the researchers Maria Gisella Catuogno, Angela Provenzali, Antonio Berti, Renzo Paoli and Vittoria Franzin.
The purpose of the meeting was to define the methods of acquisition and cataloging of the numerous photographic materials that are already being collected after the Island responded with enthusiasm and participation to the appeal launched by Fondazione Isola d’Elba: not only many people from Elba but also those who love and have chosen the island as a place of their heart, who have discovered it since the beginning of its tourist vocation and continue to frequented by it for generations.
Puzzle of life in the Elban community
The first ‘memory donors’ made their collections available, aware that each photo tells a piece of the life of the Elban community and becomes a precious and fundamental element for reconstructing a broader fresco of the entire island, which includes the traditions, customs, crafts, people, characters, the culture shared by all the islanders and the identity of each country.
The numerous contacts received immediately are a sign of the strong attachment of the Elbans to their island and their roots and testify to the enormous interest that the reconstruction of a dense network of emotional relationships arouses in its guests.
