Talking about the Sea with Gianfranco Vanagolli in Campo
On Tuesday 1 July, at 9:30 pm, guests of the Port of Marina di Campo, in Piazzale della Salata, the evening dedicated to sea narratives will be held, one of the events of the project “Change of route: paths in awareness by sea”, financed under the “Siete Presente” 2025 call promoted by CESVOT and by Regione Toscana-GiovaniSì, in agreement with the Department for Youth Policies and Universal Civil Service with the contribution of the Livorno Foundation.
Talking about the Sea with the Honorary President of Italia Nostra Tuscan Archipelago
The guest of the evening with the emblematic title: “Parlar di Mare”, will be Gianfranco Vanagolli, honorary president of Italia Nostra Arcipelago Toscano, author and essayist with a lively production of novels and stories about the sea, who through his books returns traces left over time by countless figures of sailors.
Gianfranco Vanagolli will talk about his books and the meaning of Going to Sea with the journalist Patrizia Lupi, Director of the Fondazione Isola d’Elba and author of the Project, and with Stanislao Pecchioli of the Exodus La Mammoletta Foundation who with the Bamboo boats, a Baltic 51 sloop of about 16 meters, and with the Maria Teresa, Hallberg-Rassy 49, a cutter of about 15 meters, accompanies the young people of Elba to discover their Island by looking at it from the sea. Mario Bolano, President of the Portoferraio Naval League, and Federico Galli, President of the Club del Mare, will participate in the evening, which was supported by Igiene Service srl, manager of the Port of Marina di Campo.

Gianfranco Vanagolli
Gianfranco Vanagolli was born on the Isola d’Elba, where he lives; he began his career at sea at a very young age, and later developed philological and literary interests, graduating in Modern Literature. Among his abundant production, also dedicated to the history and folklore of the Tuscan Archipelago, there are a critical essay, Profiles of contemporary Elban authors (Le Opere ei Giorni, 2008), four novels, Il tesoro del Carmine (II Foglio letterario, 2017), Bandiera a bruno per la Diletta Mauro (Ensemble, 2019), I dannati del Priamar (Edizioni il Frangente, 2021), L’oro del Pum (Il Frangente 2024) and two books of short stories, Il Cacciadiavoli e altro mare (Le Opere ei Giorni, 2001) and Tramonto a San Terenzo (Il Frangente 2024), as well as a collection of sea stories, Storie di navi, naufragi e marinai (Il frangente, 2021). His books have received significant recognition, including a special prize from Elba-Brignetti.
