Numerous people signed up to create a great album that documents the history of the Island of Elba
The initiative to create a large album that documents the history of the Island of Elba, its traditions and the transformation of the landscape is receiving numerous support.
Not only the Elbans who still live on the island are responding to the appeal, but also those who no longer live there, the descendants of emigrants and all those in love with Elba who have significant photos.
Everyone wishes to share their piece of history, contributing to the great mosaic of the Elba Memory Archive that is being put together to tell the story of the island.
A special APP to access the digital platform of the Memory of Elba
The photographs, documents and videos collected will flow into a digital platform, created by the Promemoria company, specialized in the creation of professional archives for prestigious companies. The platform will be easily accessible and integrated with an innovative APP, designed to explore the area in an interactive and engaging way.
Those who use the APP will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the life of the Elban community and travel through space and time, following routes that wind along the entire island, from the late nineteenth century to the 1980s.
The first collections have already arrived
Among the first collections already received by the editorial team managing the project are those of important local history researchers such as Gianmario Gentini, Silvestre Ferruzzi and Girolamo “Gimmi” Ferrini, as well as various personal and family archives.
Much satisfaction to the Elba Island Foundation
This promising start is a source of great satisfaction for the Fondazione Isola d’Elba, which promoted the “Archive of the Memory of Elba” project thanks to the funding of the European Union NextGenerationEU and the Ministry of Culture, as part of the digital transition of cultural and creative bodies – PNRR M1C3 Decree 385 of 10/19/2022, TOCC0002740.
The material provided by the “memory donors” will be taken in charge for the time necessary for digitization and returned quickly.
