This itinerary is all on paved roads and is therefore particularly easy and suitable for the inexperienced biker with little familiarity with the rougher tracks. Starting point is at Rio Elba, a small, pretty village where you can also visit the museum “Gente di Rio”. Our itinerary starts from the Provincial Road to Cavo.Cavo in mountain bike Island of Elba.
After about one kilometer, on the left and at about 200 meters from the road there is the hermitage of Santa Caterina (a small church dating from the 13th century today turned into an international cultural center in which you may admire rare ancient rose bushes) and the remains of the ancient Etruscan settlement of Grassera.
After about a kilometer, on the right you will see the interesting remains of the Fortress of Giove, a tower built in 1459 by the Appiano that can be easily reached on foot uphill in 20 minutes along the track marked by the signposts
Back on the mountain bike continue along the ancient abandoned mines from which precious minerals were extracted and after a gentle slope you will arrive near Mount Grosso from the top of which (it is 40 minutes on foot) there is a fine view that goes from the coast of Portoferraio to the farthest point of the Island of Elba, Cavo Vita. The road then goes on towards Cavo, the ending point of this itinerary, and after running along the sea returns through the same way to Rio Elba.
